iPhone OS4 (iOS4)

June 21st 2010 | posted by brendan addthis

ios4The new iPhone OS4 has just been released. It contains features such as multitasking, application folders (finally!), enhanced mail features, Apple’s new iBooks (which was launched with the iPad), playlist creation, tap-to-focus video, home screen wallpaper and more.

Not all of the previous iPhones are supported for all features – for example, the 3g and original phones do not support multitasking or video enhancements.

The new iPhone 4 is slated for release in the US within the next couple of days, us Canadian’s will have to wait a little bit (hopefully not too much longer).

We are excited, are you?

My Top 10 Songs

May 1st 2009 | posted by tim addthis

While this isn’t necessarily design related, the speakers in our office are in constant use, playing every type and genre of music out there, so I feel it is appropriate to write a music-related post. The following is a list of my top ten songs of all time and with it, a glimpse into the musical taste of Tim Kraumanis. I make no apologies for my taste in music, it is what it is: very eclectic and random!

10. Hung Up – Madonna
9. Wish You Were Here
– Pink Floyd
8. When The Night Feels My Song – Bedouin Soundclash

7. Baba O’Riley
– The Who
6. Life
– Our Lady Peace
5. Home for a Rest – Spirit of the West
4. Bohemian Rhapsody – Queen
3. Crush – Dave Matthews Band
2. Don’t Stop Believin’ – Journey
1. The General
- Dispatch

Apple, you need to step up your marketing game!

It could just be that I’m the only person in the world that didn’t know about this, but the microphone on the 3G iPhone headphones is also a multi-function button!!! That just blew my mind.

I’m a self-titled Apple geek, so I’m surprised I am just learning about this now, after having my iPhone for 8 months! All I can say is Apple really needs to step up their marketing game and advertise these little features – it would help improve their public perception in the wake of recent negative press surrounding features missing from the iPhone.

Summer is approaching (fingers crossed!)

It’s another beautiful day in downtown Vancouver. Spring thus far has been rather cold, but today gives me hope that it will be a hot and sunny summer in the lower mainland.

Emotion & the Internet

March 24th 2009 | posted by tim addthis

You need only look as far as YouTube, flickr or Facebook to see that the future of the internet is social, educational, creative collaboration. I believe the centre of the internet, in its current state, is human emotion.

I recently came across a particular lecture, part of the TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) series of short lectures, about the emotional world of the internet. Entitled “The Web’s Secret Stories,” Jonathan Harris talks about his work in online art that visually combines, organizes and categorizes millions of examples of human emotion. His work is truly stunning, and you should check it out.

iPhone Olympics

iPhone Olympics

Since the dawn of time, man has felt the need to compete. The Olympic games, currently taking place in Beijing, is a clear indicator of man’s desire to be the best. Today I bring you a new competition; one in which the winner will not receive anything as frivolous as a gold medal – but instead the ultimate bragging rights for being the best.

I bring you the battle of the iPhones: Black vs White.

Now you may be thinking that this post is a waste of time since they technically have the exact same options (provided they are both 16gb versions). 3G, GPS, Installable Apps from the store, beautiful and sleek features just to name a few. I assure you though, not all iPhones are created equal.

In the interest of fairness, us at 604media, choosing not to discriminate have opted for an equal number of white phones to black phones. (It actually just worked out that way and was not planned, though all the design guys got white phones and all the technical guys got black phones… hmmm).
